“Caught In Orbit” is a short 14-second animation that captures a playful moment of an alien spaceship lifting a cow from an open field. The project experiments with camera projection and blends 3D elements to bring the scene to life.
This light-hearted piece was a chance to explore storytelling beyond human-focused design, a fun dive into imagination, atmosphere, and motion. The full process behind Caught in Orbit is documented to show how the idea took shape from concept to final render. 🌌

Spaceship Design

Designed a spacecraft with rotating wheels orbiting a central sphere. Instead of keeping the sphere smooth, I introduced dimensional textures, giving it a grenade-like surface for more visual depth. The deep green colour choice helped it stand out while still feeling grounded within the overall scene.

Glass Sphere

Experimented with a glass material for the sphere to reflect its surroundings. I wanted the viewer to question what they were seeing, whether it was reflections or something hidden inside. This subtle ambiguity added depth and intrigue, making the glass surface feel more alive than a solid core.

Abductee

Painted and textured a cow model sourced online to fit seamlessly into the environment.

Drifting Clouds

Added a background plane moving from right to left to simulate drifting clouds. Later, layered additional cloud elements to make the sky feel fuller and more dynamic, enhancing the sense of atmosphere and depth.

Building the House

Designed a simple house structure to ground the scene in a familiar backyard setting and add spatial depth.

Natural Ground

Used a particle system to generate natural, randomised blades of grass, creating a textured field that added realism and movement to the environment.

CCTV Footage

Introduced a camera frame and timestamp overlay to evoke the look of modern surveillance footage. This detail anchored the animation in a contemporary context and added a subtle layer of mystery.

Lighting the Moment

Applied a CC Radial Fast Blur to simulate the glowing beam of light as the cow ascends, emphasising the energy and drama of the abduction moment.

Final Composition

Compiled the entire sequence in Adobe Premiere Pro. For the sound design, I began with ambient nature sounds; birds chirping and cows mooing, to set a sense of calm. Two seconds in, a haunting audio cue signals the spaceship’s arrival, creating contrast and drawing the viewer deeper into the story.
